Prototype stems from Mr. Danfo’s residency in Geneva in a bid to expand his Safety and Street Signs series. It is an exhibition vast in its logic and concerns, winding its way through public art, personal history, public safety, road signs and signals, street art, street lingo, and cultural identity.
Since Geneva is historically known for its position on global policy, especially on road traffic safety, it is logical to say, it is the prototype city for the United Nations implementations of these policies.
Mr. Danfo’s work in Switzerland delves into the complexities of public transportation, the design of public spaces, and the paramount importance of safety. He is fascinated by how individuals respond to the vast array of signs and signals that regulate road travel, which has a great effect on their routines and behaviours (oftentimes unconsciously). His work also references the historical development of signalization to bridge age-old practices with modern-day safety concerns, inventing a dialogue that transcends time and culture.
